LESSONS

Take a deep, slow breath then sing “Ah” for as long as you can. How did that feel? What happened in your body as you inhaled? How long were you able to sing it? What did it sound like? Wobbly? Straight? Airy? Clear? Weak? Strong? Warm? Thin? First things first, understanding your voice is essential to healthy and effective singing. Notice I said YOUR voice, not just any voice. Yes, there are fundamental things that all singers can apply to their technique but it is most important to understand your voice and to be in love with your unique sound.
Now, when was the last time you performed in front of a camera or live audience (even if it was just your dog or infant child)? Were you satisfied with your presence, and the choices you made? Were you able to let go and get lost in what you were singing about, or were you overthinking everything? Performance habits play a significant role in being considered a good singer versus a great singer. Let’s work together and find the most effective practices to reveal your best voice!
